About This Event
Consummately elegant pianist Mitsuko Uchida joins Andris Nelsons and the BSO to perform Beethoven's First and Third piano concertos in a single program, the start of a three-year cycle of Beethoven concertos featuring Ms. Uchida with Maestro Nelsons and the BSO. Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 is a robustly elegant work with which the composer made his name in mid- 1790s Vienna. The grandly scaled, powerful Piano Concerto No. 3 looks back to Mozart and forward to the composer's "heroic" style. Joan Tower's lively Chamber Dance, written in 2006, is a kind of concerto for orchestra exploring the interplay among orchestral sections.
